Dr. Sander is originally from Morristown, New Jersey.  He received his B.A. degree with honors from Rutgers University.  Along with his pre-dental science curriculum, he graduated with a degree in psychology.   He was a member of the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa and Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology.  He received his D.D.S. dental degree from Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta, Georgia.

He has been practicing dentistry over twenty-five years.  He maintained a successful private dental practice on the West Coast of Florida until Dr. Sander and his wife, Gail, relocated to South Florida in 1999 to be closer to their families.  At that time he began his new practice - Gentle Care Dentistry.

In June 2007, Dr. Sander was awarded a fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).  The AGD is a professional association of general dentists dedicated to staying up-to-date in their profession through continuing education.  Founded in 1952, the AGD has grown to become the world’s second largest dental association.

A dentist must be dedicated and concerned about the quality of care of his or her patients in today’s high tech dentistry.  Dr. Sander takes hundreds of hours in continuing education, which significantly exceeds the thirty hours required every two years for relicensure in the State of Florida.  The Academy of General Dentistry’s Fellowship Award (FAGD) is presented to honor those dentists who recognize and embrace their professional obligation to remain current through continuing education.  Only 2% of all practicing general dentists have been awarded these fellowships.

The knowledge and skills that the AGD requires its members to have insure the delivery of the highest quality of oral healthcare to better serve the needs of patients.  The Fellowship is recognized within the dental profession as a commitment to continuing education and serves a model by which to measure professional excellence.  The requirements of being awarded the Fellowship are as follows: A general dentist must complete a minimum of 500 hours of AGD-approved credit hours of continuing education and then apply for and pass a rigorous six hour comprehensive examination covering 16 areas and specialties of dentistry.  After successful completion of the examination, application for Fellowship is then made to the AGD.

The Academy of General Dentistry’s Council of Dental Education reviews in detail the credentials of each applicant.  This includes whether the applicant’s continuing education hours meet or exceed the specifications of the AGD, and whether the candidate meets the high moral and ethical standards of this organization.

It truly is an honor to be a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and Dr. Sander looks forward to providing his patients with the most current dentistry and the highest quality of care.
